Polychoral challenge: Gabrielli vs. Gallus

During the 16th century, polychoral music was considered synonymous with Venetian music. As such, it also spread throughout the Holy Roman Empire. The atelier proposes the study and performance of the repertoire for double and triple choir by the Venetian organists Andrea and Giovanni Gabrieli and composer from our region Jacobus Handl – Gallus.

The participants will be able to attend the atelier with original scores only. The use of photocopies shall not be permitted. We will offer affordable set of sheet music specified by the mentor of the atelier. The participants will be able to purchase them only after receiving the confirmation of participation in the chosen atelier. The link to the online store will be published here in April 2021.

Paolo Da Col (IT)
Paolo Da Col completed his musical studies in Bologna and his study of musicology in Venice. Displaying interest in Renaissance and pre-classical music from a young age, he has always viewed research and performance as closely connected. For more than twenty years he has been a member of several Italian vocal ensembles. Since 1998, he has conducted the vocal ensemble Odhecaton with whom he has recorded many CDs, with wide critical acclaim and awards. He is a teacher at the Trieste Conservatory. He is a music editor, author of catalogues and essays about the history of Renaissance and pre–classical vocal music.
